• Vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies
• Travelers should also be up to date for measles/mumps/rubella (MMR), diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus (DPT)
• Rabies vaccination if traveling to rural areas.
• Travel warnings for: Malaria, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Schistosomiasis, Cryptosporidiosis.
• Malaria risk in areas below 2,000 m
• Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in Yemen.
• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.
• Cutaneous leishmaniasis is carried by insects and travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellent with DEET (30%-50%)
• Schistosomiasis: avoid swimming in fresh water.
• Cryptosporidiosis: risk can be prevented by bottled water.
