Uganda
• Vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, Polio, Meningococcal, Yellow Fever
• Travelers should also be up to date for measles/mumps/rubella (MMR), diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus (DPT), Polio
• Rabies vaccination if traveling to rural areas.
• Yellow fever vaccination is recommended but not required prior to entry into Uganda
• Travel warnings for: Malaria, Dengue, Filariasis, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Onchocerciasis, Trypanosomiasis, Plague, Schistosomiasis, Cryptosporidiosis.
• Malaria risk in all areas of Uganda
• Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in Uganda.
• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.
• Dengue, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Filariasis, Onchocerciasis(River blindness), Plague, and African trypanosomiasis area all carried by insects and travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellent with DEET(30%-50%).
• Schistosomiasis: avoid swimming in fresh water.
• Cryptosporidiosis: risk can be prevented by drinking bottled water.
