Sri Lanka

• Vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, Polio, Japanese encephalitis

• Travelers should also be up to date for measles/mumps/rubella (MMR), diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus (DPT), Polio
Rabies vaccination if traveling to rural areas.
Japanese encephalitis vaccine if traveling to rural farming areas of Sri Lanka.

• Travel warnings for: Malaria, Dengue, Filariasis, Leishmaniasis, Leptospirosis, Cryptosporidiosis.

Malaria risk in all areas of Sri Lanka except in the districts of Colombo, Galle, Kalutara, and Nuwara Eliya.
• Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in India
• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.

Dengue, Filariasis,Cutaneous leishmaniasis are carried by insects. Travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellent with DEET (30%-50%)

Leptospirosis: avoid swimming in fresh water.

Cryptosporidiosis: risk can be prevented by bottled water.
