• Vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, Polio, Japanese encephalitis
• Travelers should also be up to date for measles/mumps/rubella (MMR), diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus (DPT), Polio
• Rabies vaccination if traveling to rural areas.
• Japanese encephalitis vaccine if traveling to rural farming areas of Sri Lanka.
• Travel warnings for: Malaria, Dengue, Filariasis, Leishmaniasis, Leptospirosis, Cryptosporidiosis.
• Malaria risk in all areas of Sri Lanka except in the districts of Colombo, Galle, Kalutara, and Nuwara Eliya.
• Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in India
• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.
• Dengue, Filariasis,Cutaneous leishmaniasis are carried by insects. Travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellent with DEET (30%-50%)
• Leptospirosis: avoid swimming in fresh water.
• Cryptosporidiosis: risk can be prevented by bottled water.
