• Vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies

• Travelers should also be up to date for measles/mumps/rubella (MMR), diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus (DPT)

Rabies vaccination if traveling to rural areas.

• Travel warnings for: Malaria, Dengue, Filariasis, Cutaneous, leishmaniasis, Onchocerciasis, Trypanosomiasis, Schistosomiasis, Cryptosporidiosis.

Malaria risk in Kruger National Park and areas below 2000 m. Also areas of the Mpumalanga Province, Northern Province (Limpopo), and northeastern Kwa- Zulu-Natal as far south as the Tugela River of South Africa.
• Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in South Africa.
• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.

Dengue, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Filariasis, Onchocerciasis (River blindness), and African trypanosomiasis are all carried by insects and travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellent with DEET (30%-50%).

Schistosomiasis avoid swimming in fresh water.

Cryptosporidiosis risk can be prevented by bottled water.
