• Vaccinations:  Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, Polio,  Japanese encephalitis

• Travelers should also be up to date for Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR), Diphtheria/Pertussis/Tetanus (DPT), Polio

 

Rabies vaccination if traveling to rural areas.

 

Japanese encephalitis vaccine if traveling to rural farming areas of Pakistan

• Travel warnings for: Malaria, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Dengue, Leptospirosis, Cryptosporidiosis.

Malaria risk in all areas in Pakistan below 2000m.

 

• Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in Pakistan.

 

• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Filariasis and Dengue are all carried by insects. Travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellent with DEET (30%-50%)

 

Leptospirosis: avoid swimming in fresh water.

 

Cryptosporidiosis: risk can be prevented by drinking bottled water.
