• Vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, Polio, Japanese encephalitis
• Travelers should also be up to date for Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR), Diphtheria/Pertussis/Tetanus (DPT), Polio
• Rabies vaccination if traveling to rural areas.
• Japanese encephalitis vaccine if traveling to rural farming areas of Pakistan
• Travel warnings for: Malaria, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Dengue, Leptospirosis, Cryptosporidiosis.
• Malaria risk in all areas in Pakistan below 2000m.
• Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in Pakistan.
• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.
• Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Filariasis and Dengue are all carried by insects. Travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellent with DEET (30%-50%)
• Leptospirosis: avoid swimming in fresh water.
• Cryptosporidiosis: risk can be prevented by drinking bottled water.
