Mozambique

• Vaccinations:  Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, Polio

• Travelers should also be up to date for Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR), Diphtheria/Pertussis/Tetanus (DPT), Polio

 

Rabies vaccination if traveling to rural areas.

 

• Travel warnings for: Malaria, Dengue, Filariasis, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Onchocerciasis, Trypanosomiasis, Schistosomiasis, Cryptosporidiosis.

Malaria risk in all areas of Mozambique.
• Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in Mozambique.
• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.

Dengue, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Filariasis, Onchocerciasis (River blindness), and African trypanosomiasis are all carried by insects. Travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellent with DEET(30%-50%).

Schistosomiasis avoid swimming in fresh water.

Cryptosporidiosis risk can be prevented by drinking bottled water.
