Kenya

• Vaccinations:  Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, Polio, Meningococcal, Yellow Fever

• Travelers should also be up to date for Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR), Diphtheria/Pertussis/Tetanus (DPT), Polio

 

Rabies vaccination if traveling to rural areas.

 

Yellow fever vaccination is recommended but not required prior to entry into Kenya.

• Travel warnings for: Malaria, Dengue, Filariasis, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Onchocerciasis, Trypanosomiasis, Plague, Schistosomiasis, and Cryptosporidiosis.

Malaria in all areas of Kenya except Nairobi.
• Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in Kenya.
• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.

Dengue, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Filariasis, Onchocerciasis (River blindness), Plague, and African trypanosomiasis area all carried by insects so travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellent with DEET(30%-50%).

Schistosomiasis: avoid swimming in fresh water.

Cryptosporidiosis risk can be prevented by drinking bottled water.
