• Vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, Polio, Japanese encephalitis
• Travelers should also be up to date for Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR), Diphtheria/Pertussis/Tetanus (DPT), Polio
• Rabies vaccination if traveling to rural areas.
• Japanese Encephalitis vaccine if traveling to rural farming areas of Indonesia
• Travel warnings for: Malaria, Dengue, Filariasis, Leishmaniasis, Plague, Leptospirosis, Schistosomiasis, Cryptosporidiosis.
• Malaria risk in all areas of eastern Indonesia and in rural areas of Sumatra, Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Nusa Tenggara Barat. No risk in Jakarta, resort areas of Bali .
• Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in Indonesia
• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.
• Dengue, Filariasis,Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Plague are carried by insects. Travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellent with DEET (30%-50%).
• Leptospirosis: avoid swimming in fresh water.
• Schistosomiasis: avoid swimming in fresh water.
• Cryptosporidiosis risk can be prevented by drinking bottled water.
