Guinea

• Vaccinations:  Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, Meningococcal, Yellow Fever

• Travelers should also be up to date for Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR), Diphtheria/Pertussis/Tetanus (DPT), Polio

 

Rabies vaccination if traveling to rural areas.

 

Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required prior to entry into Guinea.

 

• Travel warnings for: Malaria, Dengue, Filariasis, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Onchocerciasis, Trypanosomiasis, Schistosomiasis, and Cryptosporidiosis.

 

Malaria risk in all areas of Guinea.
• Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in Guinea.
• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.

Dengue, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Filariasis, Onchocerciasis (River blindness), and African trypanosomiasis are all carried by insects so travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellent with DEET (30%-50%).

Schistosomiasis avoid swimming in fresh water.

Cryptosporidiosis risk can be prevented by drinking bottled water.
