Cape Verde

Vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Polio, Yellow Fever

Travelers should be up to date on Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR), Diphtheria/Pertussis/Tetanus (DPT), and Polio.

• Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required prior to entry into Cape Verde.

Travel warnings for: Malaria, Dengue, Filariasis, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Onchocerciasis, Trypanosomiasis, Schistosomiasis, and Cryptosporidiosis.

Malaria risk in all areas of Cape Verde.
• Chloroquine is NOT an effective antimalarial drug in Cape Verde.
• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.

Dengue, Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Filariasis, Onchocerciasis (River blindness), and African trypanosomiasis are all carried by insects and travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellents with DEET (30%-50%).

Schistosomiasis avoid swimming in fresh water.

Cryptosporidiosis risk can be prevented by drinking bottled water.
