Burundi

Vaccinations: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Rabies, Polio, Yellow fever

• Travelers should be up to date on measles/mumps/rubella (MMR), diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus (DPT), Polio.

• Rabies vaccination if traveling to rural areas.

• Yellow fever vaccination certificate required prior to entry into Burundi.

Travel warnings for: Malaria, Dengue, Filariasis, Leishmaniasis, Leptospirosis, Schistosomiasis, Cryptosporidiosis.

Malaria in all areas of Burundi.
• Chloroquine is NOT an effective anti malarial drug in Burundi.
• Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine can be used and this should be discussed with your doctor.

Dengue, Filariasis,Cutaneous leishmaniasis are carried by insects and Travelers should avoid insect bites and use insect repellents with DEET (30%-50%).

Leptospirosis: avoid swimming in fresh water

Schistosomiasis avoid swimming in fresh water.

Cryptosporidiosis risk can be prevented by bottled water.
