• Muscle weakness must be distinguished from generalized fatigue, lethargy or malaise which all tend to describe the sense of tiredness.
• Weakness that is isolated to specific location can result from:
· stroke
· muscle damage
· injury to a nerve
· Multiple sclerosis
· Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
• Diffuse weakness of muscles may result from illnesses such as:
· thyroid disease
·adrenal insufficiency
