Varicose Abdominal Veins

· Varicose Abdominal Veins (caput medusae) is the symptom of visible veins in the abdominal wall.

· Varicose Abdominal Veins (caput medusae) appear as swollen and engorged veins within the abdominal wall, extending out from the belly button.

· Veins in the abdominal wall are not normally visible.

· Engorged veins in the abdominal wall are a sign of cirrhosis of the liver.

· Varicose Veins in the abdominal wall may also appear in:
states of starvation and extreme cachexia
obstruction of inferior vena caval
obstruction of superior vena caval
portal vein obstruction
clotting of the abdominal vein thrombosis

· Varicose Abdominal Veins should be evaluated by your doctor.
