Obesity is an epidemic and in the United States and 31% of men and 34% of women are obese.

Obesity is associated with higher risks of:
· heart disease
· diabetes
· arthritis
· some forms of cancer

Obesity is associated with a shorter life expectancy.

Obesity can be a symptom of:
hypothyroidism (impaired thyroid function).
Cushings disease (excessive cortisol production)

Obesity can be a symptom of excessive insulin production and insulin resistance and diabetes.
