Nipple discharge

· Nipple discharge is the symptom of inappropriate fluid from the breast nipple.

· Nipple discharge that is greenish or brown and comes from many nipple ducts in one or both breast before the the menstrual cycle is usually due to fibrocystic breast disease.

· Nipple discharge that is milky in a woman who is not breast feeding can be the result of a pituitary tumor, thyroid disease or medications.

· Nipple discharge coming from one breast that is clear and from one duct is usually a papilloma but infrequently can be a sign of cancer.

· Nipple discharge that is bloody can be a sign of breast cancer.

· Nipple discharge that appears like pus can be a sign of an abscess or infection of the breast.

· Nipple discharge should be evaluated by your doctor.
