Angular cheilitis

Angular cheilitis is the disorder of painful cracking of the skin at the corners of the mouth.

Angular cheilitis is caused by irritation and breakdown of the lips (skin and mucosal barrier).

Angular cheilitis can develop from:
· excessive drying
· an infection of the fungus candida
· an infection of the bacteria staphlococcus
· iron deficiency
· malnutrition
