Ambiguous genitalia
• Ambiguous genitalia is external genitalia that at birth has not developed sufficiently to be obviously male or obviously female.
• Ambiguous genitalia can be enlarged clitoris that has the appearance of a small penis.
• Ambiguous genitalia can be a small penis with an abnormal urethral opening (the tube urine passes through)
• Ambiguous genitalia can be that the labia has fused, resembling a scrotum.
• Ambiguous genitalia can be a male with undescended testicles (testicles that did not migrate out of the abdomen into the scrotum).
• Ambiguous genitalia can be a small penis (less than 2-3 centimeters or 0.8-1.2 inches) that may resemble an enlarged clitoris.
• Ambiguous genitalia can be a small scrotum with any degree of separation (opening), resembling labia.
• Ambiguous genitalia can result from genetic abnormalities or insensitivity to testosterone.
