Acanthosis nigricans

Acanthosis nigricans is a dark velvety thickening of the skin usually at the base of the neck, under the arms or in the groin.

Acanthosis nigricans is a symptom of excessive insulin levels, and is a strong indicator or risk of developing diabetes mellitus.

Acanthosis nigricans can be associated with obesity, Cushing’s disease, Acromegaly, hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, and types of cancer.
