Abnormal uterine bleeding

Abnormal uterine bleeding (dysfunctional uterine bleeding) is the symptom of blood discharge from the vagina that is not associated with the normal menstrual cycle.

 

Abnormal uterine bleeding may result from:
· abnormal hormone levels
· disorders in pregnancy
· bleeding abnormalities (disorders in coagulation)
· ovulation bleeding which is spotting at the time of ovulation
· Polycystic ovary disease
· Uterine fibroids
· polyps in the uterus or cervix
· Infections of the cervix or uterus and sexually transmitted diseases
· cervical cancer
· Uterine cancer
· hypothyroidism
· Diabetes mellitus

Abnormal uterine bleeding can indicate a serious medical problem and should be evaluated by your doctor.
