Abnormal uterine bleeding
• Abnormal uterine bleeding (dysfunctional uterine bleeding) is the symptom of blood discharge from the
vagina that is not associated with the normal menstrual cycle.
• Abnormal uterine bleeding may result from:
· abnormal hormone levels
· disorders in pregnancy
· bleeding abnormalities (disorders in coagulation)
· ovulation bleeding which is spotting at the time of ovulation
· Polycystic ovary disease
· Uterine fibroids
· polyps in the uterus or cervix
· Infections of the cervix or uterus and sexually transmitted diseases
· cervical cancer
· Uterine cancer
· hypothyroidism
· Diabetes mellitus
• Abnormal uterine bleeding can indicate a serious medical problem and should be evaluated by your doctor.
