Abdominal rigidity
• Abdominal rigidity is the symptom of involuntary contraction of the abdominal wall muscles in response
to abdominal pain.
• Abdominal rigidity is abdominal wall stiffness which involuntarily increases with pressing against the abdominal wall.
• Abdominal rigidity is a characteristic finding by a doctor when examining the abdomen of a patient who has a significant intra-abdominal problem.
• Abdominal rigidity can be a sign of:
· peritonitis
· acute appendicitis
· gastrointestinal perforation
· cholecystitis
• Abdominal rigidity can indicate a serious medical problem and should be evaluated by your doctor.
