Abdominal rebound tenderness
• Abdominal rebound tenderness is the symptom of abdominal pain that occurs when a doctor is
examining a patient and is worse right after pressing on the abdomen.
• Abdominal rebound tenderness is a sign that often indicates:
· peritonitis (infection within the abdominal cavity)
· acute appendicitis
· gastrointestinal perforation (rupture of the stomach or intestinal wall)
· cholecystitis (infection of the gallbladder)
• Abdominal rebound tenderness can indicate a serious medical problem and should be evaluated by your doctor.
