· Urinary Tract Infection is an infection originating from:
· the urethra (tube in which urine passes to leave the body)
· prostate
· bladder
· kidneys
• Overview
· Urinary Tract Infection are very common and the most commonly diagnosed bacterial infection.
· Over seven million people are treated for urinary infection every year.
· Urinary Tract Infection commonly arise from bacteria from the colon or rectum that migrate up the urethra.
· Urinary Tract Infection are more common in women than men due to the shorter urethra.
• Symptoms
· Urinary Tract Infection symptoms include:
· pain with urination
· the feeling of urgency to urinate
· discolored or cloudy urine
· lower abdominal pain
· pelvic pain
· back pain
· fever
· nausea
· lethargy
• Complications
· Urinary Tract Infection that is not treated can lead to spreading to the kidneys and into the blood stream.
• Treatment
· Urinary Tract Infection treatment is antibiotics directed at the infecting organism.
