Corneal ulcer
• The cornea is the clear part on the surface of the eye.
· Corneal ulcer is an abrasion like a sore on the surface of the cornea.
· Corneal ulcer are commonly due to infections with:
· bacteria
· virus
· fungi
· amebas
· Corneal ulcer can also result from inflammation due to:
· allergies
· dry eyes
· exposure to environmental extremes
· Corneal ulcer are also associated with contact use especially when left in place over night.
· Corneal ulcers typically cause:
· eye pain
· excessive tearing
· sensitivity to light along
· blurred vision
· Corneal ulcer complications include:
· bacterial keratitis
· infection inside the eye
· loss of vision
· scarring of the cornea
