Acid Reflux
• Gastroesophageal reflux is a symptom of acid reflux inappropriately
passing from the stomach acid and up into the esophagus.
• Gastroesophageal reflux acid burns the wall of the esophagus causing a burning pain or discomfort.
• Gastroesophageal reflux, Heartburn and GERD all indicate gastroesophageal (acid) reflux disease.
• Twenty percent of American adults will have symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and 10% of adults will have daily discomfort.
• Gastroesophageal reflux may worsen while lying down.
• Gastroesophageal reflux can lead to esophageal cancer, so discomfort lasting more than two weeks should always be evaluated by your doctor.
