Acid Reflux

Gastroesophageal reflux is a symptom of acid reflux inappropriately passing from the stomach acid and up into the esophagus.

Gastroesophageal reflux acid burns the wall of the esophagus causing a burning pain or discomfort.

Gastroesophageal reflux, Heartburn and GERD all indicate gastroesophageal (acid) reflux disease.

• Twenty percent of American adults will have symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and 10% of adults will have daily discomfort.

Gastroesophageal reflux may worsen while lying down.

Gastroesophageal reflux can lead to esophageal cancer, so discomfort lasting more than two weeks should always be evaluated by your doctor.
